Emergency nursing is a recognised specialty
(National Specialisation Framework for Nursing and Midwifery, 2006).
Emergency nursing involves working in a time-sensitive
environment with limited information and caring for patients who are
diagnostic dilemmas. At Westmead Emergency we specialise in nursing
medical, surgical, toxicologic and mental health emergencies, with
trauma and resuscitation being a crucial component of our work.
As registered or enrolled nurses you can apply for a position within
the emergency nursing team. The initial 12 months are significant in
a graduate nurse's career and personal development. At
Westmead Emergency a specifically designed program is in place to
support the graduate nurse in this diverse and dynamic clinical
environment.
