Westmead Emergency has a strong focus on teaching and continuing education. We are affiliated with the Westmead Clinical School at the University of Sydney. With the establishment of the Discipline of Emergency Medicine within the Sydney Medical School, our ED is at the forefront of curriculum development and teaching excellence for our medical students. Our enthusiastic lecturers form a core part of critical care education to undergraduates and promote research in the specialty. The Director's Prize ($250) is awarded annually to the best project by a medical student completed in the ED.
Our medical students instituted the first Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) to be formed in the southern hemisphere - by the medical students, for the medical students. This forum provides the future Emergency Physicians of tomorrow an insider's view of the ED.
