We are a tertiary teaching hospital with a level 1 trauma centre.

The ED has a team of dynamic and enthusiastic consultants, providing 16 hours per day cover. Basic, provisional and advanced trainees are well supported and teamwork is our mantra.

Westmead Emergency is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for up to 2 years training.

Teaching and education are our top priority and Emergency Registrars receive 4 hours per week protected and paid teaching time.

With the establishment of the Emergency Medicine Research Unit, our trainees are encouraged to participate in inter-departmental research. Our consultants actively support 4.10 projects.

We have strong links with our sister hospitals in Ireland, the Netherlands and support accredited EM training overseas.

We have a variety of attractive non-ED secondments including:

Westmead Hospital is very close to Parramatta (within 30min of the CBD), the vibrant
geographical centre of Sydney. It has easy train, bus or ferry
access to the CBD, major shopping districts, and the Olympic
village. Hospital accommodation may be arranged if required.
